Surrogacy is prohibited in Sweden and many other countries, but in California the phenomenon is a growing industry. In For Somebody Else, we meet three women who for varying reasons have chosen to carry and give birth to the other people’s children. Director Sven Blume follows the everyday chaos and emotional turmoil they go through – before, during and after pregnancy – and allows them to formulate and reflect over their choices. The result is a thought-provoking, nuanced and intimate documentary.

With a cinema release in WG Film’s home country Sweden, a London premiere at the Barbican Centre on the 11th of September as well as a US premiere at the San Francisco Green Film Festival on September 24th, it is generating interest everywhere.

The film has already begun cinema releases in Germany, Denmark, Canada and soon Spain, Sweden and Slovenia. In Germany the film has played in 79 theatres in total so far with cinemas in 20 cities screening the film at the moment. In Canada the film has played in 15 cities so far and continues to reach further with more and more screenings. Internationally, the film has been sold to distributors in 15 territories and several additional broadcasters.

Upcoming national premieres this fall include Mexico, Australia and Malaysia.

In Europe, PUSH will screen at Bergen International Film Festival (Norwegian Premiere), Reykjavík International Film Festival (Icelandic Premiere) and the Irish Film Institute Documentary Festival (Irish Premiere) as well as screenings in Finland (Doc Lounge) and Austria. It is fair to say that PUSH is taking the world by a storm!

NEW FILM BY FREDRIK GERTTEN - RELEASE 2019

Landlords without faces. Apartments without tenants. A documentary exploring the new, un-livable city.

Housing prices are skyrocketing in cities worldwide. Incomes are not. The working and middle classes are getting pushed out of cities, while financial powerhouses use housing as a place to park money.

PUSH investigates why we can’t afford to live in our own cities anymore. We follow UN Special Rapporteur on Housing, Leilani Farha, on her quest to understand who’s getting squeezed, who’s getting rich and why housing has become one of today’s most pressing world issues.

A trailer for Fredrik Gertten’s new film PUSH is out now! The film will be released next year.

OUTREACH & COMMUNITY STRATEGIST

office_wgfilm37 (1).jpg

WG Film produces award winning international documentaries. When people who want to change the world use our films as tools, we feel proud. Our audience is global and we communicate with them on a daily basis. After successes like BANANAS!*, Big Boys Gone Bananas!*, Bikes vs Cars and Dead Donkeys Fear No Hyenas, we now want to strengthen our outreach team.

We are looking for a passionate co-worker for our team at WG Film. You are interested in and have some experience of:

  • online strategic communication

  • outreach and impact work

  • community building

  • communicating in English

  • documentary film

From the WG Film office in Malmö, you will be part of developing and implementing strategies around community building and outreach. You will also be working with our social media accounts to keep in touch with existing fan base as well as work to broaden it. As being part of a small team, in a small company, you will also take part of finding funding for the outreach work.

About You
We are interested in people from different backgrounds, perhaps you have a background in communications or you have worked at an NGO, for instance. Either way, an interest in world political issues is crucial. Please send your application as soon as possible to film@wgfilm.com. We will start interviewing from September 1st 2018 and forward.
